ABC's Nightline Takes Late Night Crown; Bests Letterman & Leno!

Shocking isn't it? ABC's Nightline has consistently beaten both David Letterman and Jay Leno for 18 straight weeks in the ratings. The folks at Nightline like Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Martin Bashir are probably tickled pink by this news, but it doesn't bode well for Leno as he just took over for Conan O'Brien ("It was voluntary... I swear") after his disaster in the ratings at 10pm. O'Brien would have been fine if the network had just given him time, but it was not to be and Jay ended up back in the big chair for The Tonight Show.

Letterman's Late Show with David Letterman on CBS is the same as always, consistently funny, but Dave is getting up there in age and maybe the younger crowd isn't watching like it once did. Many prefer Stephen Colbert and Jon Daily to Letterman and they younger viewers really just won't watch Leno unless there's a great guest. Most stay away in droves.

But how does Nightline stack up? They've been using hard hitting journalism with features like "The Kardashians: Reality Show Darlings" and "Are Kim And Reggie Really Over?!" Total snorefest, but it does bring in the eyeballs. What must Ted Koppel be thinking?

Michael J. Fox To Be On The Good Wife

Actor Michael J. Fox has been announced as a guest star on The Good Wife which stars Julianna Margulies and Chris Noth next season. Fox will play a "shrewd and cynical litigator" named Simon Canning who will oppose Margulies' character, Alicia Florrick in a massive class action suit as he defends a giant pharmaceutical company.

Fox was last seen in 5 episodes of Rescue Me with Denis Leary in 2009. Personally one of my alltime favorite actors, Fox rose to fame playing Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties back in the 80s and Spin City of course as well as a number of hit movies on his resume such as the Back To The Future trilogy and Doc Hollywood before suffering from Parkinsons disease. He started Spin City after his diagnosis and also made a great (if underrated) movie called The Frighteners - check that one out if you haven't seen it yet.

Since then he has had a number of memorable guest roles, such as Daniel Post on Boston Legal. He also has picked up 5 Emmy Awards over the course of his career.

The premiere of The Good Wife is set for Tuesday, Sept. 28 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS. The series’ first season was a critical success, having received nine Emmy nominations.

Hot In Cleveland Renewed For At Least 20 More Episodes

Looks like Betty White, Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Valerie Bertinelli will be around next season after the cable channel TV Land took out the option to have another 20 episodes of the series for next season.

The ratings have been pretty good, with an average of 4.7 million viewers since the show premiered July 16th. That's really something as the cable channel usually offers fare such as reruns of "The Andy Griffith Show," "All in the Family," "The Cosby Show" and "Everybody Loves Raymond".

The producer of the show is Sean Hayes who played Jack on Will & Grace. The show stars Bertinelli, Leeves and Malick as 3 friends who uproot from Los Angeles for Cleveland (I half expect to see Drew Cary putting in an appearance) and Betty White is the caretaker for the home the three rent.

So far the series had had a number of celeb guest stars on the show, such as John Schneider ("The Dukes of Hazzard"), seven-time Emmy winner Carl Reiner ("The Dick Van Dyke Show'), singer Huey Lewis and Amy Yasbeck ("Wings"). Other guest stars that have been announced for the first season include: Wayne Knight ("Seinfeld," "3rd Rock from the Sun"), Susan Lucci ("All My Children"), Emmy winner Shirley Knight ("Indictment: The McMartin Trial") and Juliet Mills ("Nanny and the Professor").

Emma Roberts Could Be The Love Interest In The New Spiderman Movie

Rumor is that actress Emma Roberts could possibly be Gwen Stacy, the girl that Andrew Garfield falls for in the upcoming Spiderman Reboot movie which is not scheduled for release until July of 2012.

In case you were unaware, just about everyone was let go from the Spiderman franchise for this new version of the webslinger. Out are Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker aka Spiderman, and Sam Raimi who directed the first 3 movies.

Emma Roberts is just one of several young actresses up for the Stacy role opposite Garfield. Here is a list of those under consideration:

Imogen Poots - who played the young Valerie in V For Vendetta and Tammy in 28 Weeks Later.
Ophelia Lovibond - another English actress who has lots of film experience.
Lilly Collins - Recent seen on 2 episodes of 90210 and about to appear in Romero & Juliet. Very pretty if a little on the lean side. Also English - is that a requirement of being Peter Parker's love interest?
Teresa Palmer - A new actress from Australia. Recently in The Sorcerer's Apprentice and was also cast in The Grudge 2.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead - Winstead was in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World as Ramona Flowers. She's also a part of the remake of The Thing which I wanna see when it comes out next year.

Roberts is of course the front runner at this time having been in 2007's Nancy Drew and currently filming Scream 4.

Video: Lindsay Lohan Sentenced To 90 Days In Jail

Well, maybe this will smarten this dumb, dumb girl up. Lindsay Lohan gets sent to jail for 90 days for breaching her probation and breaks down in tears when told she was going to prison. Lohan will be required to report to authorities in 2 weeks time to begin her jail time. July 20th, 2010 she will start her sentence, but no word if she will be eligible for early release. Lohan also will be required to undergo 90 days of rehab foillowing her release from prison.

Megan Fox In Her Underwear - Need We Say More?

The lovely Megan Fox was named "The Face Of Emporio Armani underwear" for the second year in a row. Are you reading this or staring at the picture on the right?

There'll be a new ad featuring Fox shortly if not already and a major billboard campaign starting in July and her image will be plastered all over major cities til spring.

And unfortunately, Megan is once again engaged to sometime actor Brian Austin Green. Like you had a shot either lol.

Odd Comments On Tube Squad Blog

For some reason I keep getting odd comments on this blog that don't show up at all. I don't know if they're left in a language other than English, but they seems to be in characters that do not display correctly. Someone leaves a comment and all I see is Square, Square, Square, dot, dot, dot. If you are trying to contribute something positive to the commentary, great. If not, please go elsewhere, because I do moderate all comments and those that will not show up legibly will obviously be deleted.

Ralph Macchio's New Film

Gotta admit this is funny. Nice guy Ralph Macchio's attempt to be a hollywood bad boy. While the re-make of his The Karate Kid is released with Jaden Smith taking over the role Macchio made famous as Daniel-san Russo, Macchio tries to revive his faded star. I'd actually like to see this one.

Leonard Nimoy Hangs Up His Ears

Well it looks like Leonard Nimoy has decided to retire from the world of acting at the ripe age of 79. Nimoy shot to fame as the iconic Vulcan Mister Spock on the original TV series Star Trek way back in the mid-1960s. Nimoy has been acting for about 60 years so cut him some slack Trekkers. He is getting up there, even for a Vulcan. I am of course hoping that Nimoy will sneak in one final guest shot on The Big Bang Theory so that Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) will be able to meet his idol. I still get a chuckle when I see that clip where Penny (Kaley Cuoco) gave Sheldon Nimoy's napkin for Christmas after his visit to The Cheesecake Factory and Sheldon explained excitedly "Do you know what this means?! All I need is a healthy ovum and I can make my own Leonard Nimoy!" And Penny says "Whoa Sheldon. All you're gettin' is the napkin."

Nimoy seems to have been on the radar for so long, it will be a shame fans won't be able to see him on the tube anymore, but for those geeks shocked by his retirement, he didn't say he wouldn't be making guest appearances at Trek conventions and the like. Kick back and relax Leonard, you've earned it.

Family Guy Actress Slams Sarah Palin

Gotta love this clip. Mention is made of the reaction of the actress who played the girl with Downs Syndrome replied to former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin gripping about the comment regarding her son. On the show Family Guy, a line is read basically saying that "My mom is the former governor of Alaska." To which Sarah Palin tried to tear into Family Guy as having gone over the line by attacking her.

The actress (who happens to have Downs Syndrome), replied by saying that in her family they have a sense of humor about this, and apparently Sarah palin doesn't. My family raised me to have a sense of humor and lead a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of french bread, the way former governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes. Meanwhile Palin just basically ignores Rush Limbaugh's comments (as mentioned in the clip) as satire. Last time I looked, The Family Guy television series was all about satire and humor.

The Big Bang Theory: The Large Hadron Collision Preview

Looks like Howard (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette are doing okay, but poor Raj (Kunal Nayyar) is left out in the cold. this is a preview for The Big Bang Theory called The Large Hadron Collision which aired February 8th.

The next episode, The Excelsior Acquisition will air March 1st. In that episode, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) has a chance to meet one of his idols, legendary comic book artist Stan Lee, but he is stuck in traffic court after getting a ticket because of Penny (Kaley Cuoco). Hard to believe season three of The Big Bang Theory is already just about over.

70s Heart-throb Leif Garrett Arrested On Heroin Possession

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Back in the 1970s, Leif Garrett was beloved by millions of girls and on the covers of teen magazines like Tiger Beat and others after having some songs have some success.

There was his version of "Runaround Sue" that did okay. He also was in several different TV shows, like Family, with Kristy McNicol and Meredith Baxter.

Garrett was the driver in an accident that left a friend a paraplegic. He was under the influence of drugs at the time.

Flash forward, and Leif Garrett was just arraigned on heroin possession charges at age 48, looking nothing like the pin-up boy of yesteryear. He was arrested after the drugs were found hidden in his shoe.
