The Latest Spider-Man Trailer Released

Now this is more like it! Like many, I was unsure about how this new version of the Spider-Man franchise would play out after the Toby Maguire/Sam Raimi films but I can say I like this new look to Peter Parker/Spider-Man which will be released June 3, 2012.

That is a very nicely down trailer and it looks like Maguire's replacement, Andrew Garfield does pretty good but of course we'll have to wait to see if the final results live up to the promises of a great action flick given in a trailer. Garfield seems fitted to the Peter Parker role as the teenaged web slinger as well as the bright, nerdy kid. He was most recently seen in 2009's The Social Network, where he played Eduardo Saverin and he will have another movie this year besides The Amazing Spider-Man called Back Roads, which should give Garfield a chance to flex some acting muscles as the eldest son whose mother is placed in jail for having killed his abusive, drunken father.

But back to the matter at hand. Rather than have Kirsten Dunst return once more as Mary Jane Watson, those behind the film have cast the lovely Emma Stone as Parker's love interest, Gwen Stacy with Denis Leary as her cop father. I always love seeing Leary in these roles where he plays the tough guy. Stone was just in the Oscar-nominated The Help last year and played Wichita in Zombieland the year before that.

In The Amazing Spider-Man, which is going to be in 3D, seems a little closer to what his origins are in this movie. He doesn't get to shoot webs out of his wrists as a result of his "evolution" but has to make a little device that spins webs which is what he had to do back in the original comic books. Dr. Curt Connors, played by Rhys Ifans, aka The Lizard, looks pretty good too and should provide a great villan for this movie. Ifans was also in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 where he played Xenophilius Lovegood. It looks like Dr. Connors worked with Parker's father at Oscorp and Parker's character solves whatever problem prevents Connors from morphing into the Lizard. The movie looks like it packs a ton of story into about a 2 hour film while still offering up a fair share of kickass action scenes. Now we just have to wait for June to roll around so we can see the finished movie. I'm guessing that this will be (obviously) one of the biggest movies this summer and will probably easily hit at least $200 million in box office sales.

Emma Roberts Could Be The Love Interest In The New Spiderman Movie

Rumor is that actress Emma Roberts could possibly be Gwen Stacy, the girl that Andrew Garfield falls for in the upcoming Spiderman Reboot movie which is not scheduled for release until July of 2012.

In case you were unaware, just about everyone was let go from the Spiderman franchise for this new version of the webslinger. Out are Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker aka Spiderman, and Sam Raimi who directed the first 3 movies.

Emma Roberts is just one of several young actresses up for the Stacy role opposite Garfield. Here is a list of those under consideration:

Imogen Poots - who played the young Valerie in V For Vendetta and Tammy in 28 Weeks Later.
Ophelia Lovibond - another English actress who has lots of film experience.
Lilly Collins - Recent seen on 2 episodes of 90210 and about to appear in Romero & Juliet. Very pretty if a little on the lean side. Also English - is that a requirement of being Peter Parker's love interest?
Teresa Palmer - A new actress from Australia. Recently in The Sorcerer's Apprentice and was also cast in The Grudge 2.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead - Winstead was in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World as Ramona Flowers. She's also a part of the remake of The Thing which I wanna see when it comes out next year.

Roberts is of course the front runner at this time having been in 2007's Nancy Drew and currently filming Scream 4.

Tobey Maguire; Sam Raimi Out ~ Won't Be In Spidey 4!

The word is that both out for Spiderman 4, with production pushed back to 2012 as the braintrust at Sony scrambles to rustle up a Peter Parker and director.

Raimi helmed the first three Spiderman blockbusters all with Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spiderman battling against various super-villans garnering bucketloads of money at the box office (and in after sales like merchandise), but that's all over. There was some talk of Maguire being in the upcoming version of The Hobbit, but Maguire quashed that saying he hadn't spoken with anyone involved and his participation was simply gossip.

Because of problems with the latest installment of the Spiderman franchise (supposedly script re-writes), production was stalled, and Marvel Studios started pushing to get the new Thor movie, starring Australian newcomer Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, fast-tracked. Filming on that movie began yesterday.

Don't know what to make of this move by the studios. There are rumors that Spidey 4 is supposed to be more about teenaged Peter Parker, and Maguire, 33, may be a little long in the tooth to play a youthful Spiderman. It seems sort of like they are trying to take a page from Batman Begins, with a new take on Spiderman's origins, BUT, wasn't that all taken care of in Spiderman back in 2002 when Maguire took on the role?

As far as Maguire himself, he has tons of films lined up: The Details, a dark comedy due out this year, as well as The Crusaders a story about segregation. He also has at least ten more films in the pipeline for the next several years, as well as the critically acclaimed Brothers which was just recently released.

Raimi also has a very busy itinerary for the next five years, with 3 movies out this year, two more the next and several television projects on the backburner.

Guess we'll need to get more information before we find out the real cause of the split between Raimi/Maguire and Sony. What's your take on this mess?
